Three-day conference on a 'melancholic' approach to historicity, oriented around loss, destruction and defeat (Benjamin, Hegel, Arendt, Burckhardt, Nancy and others). Thursday: loss, mourning, melancholia and nostalgia. Friday: processing loss in culture, art and ecology. Saturday (morning only): between defeat and hope. Co-funded by the Descartes Centre.
